Rock Songs Became the Choice of Doctors in the Operating Room – According to surveys from Spotify’s digital music service, rock is the most popular genre heard by doctors when performing surgery (49%), then pop (48%), classical music (43%), jazz (24%) and R & B (21%) .
“The lives of people are in my hands and listening to rocks helps me to be calm so my full attention is focused on the patient,” said Dr. Alan I. Benvenisty, vascular surgeon and transplant at Mount Sinai Health System NYC, in the Spotify survey results.
“I listen to the band from my youth, and feel the nostalgia that makes me calm and focused,” he continued.
According to surveys conducted through the application of health knowledge sharing. Almost all (90%) surgeons and resident surgeries listen to music in the operating room. With a majority of 89% preferring playlists rather than albums. Nearly a third (31%) of these doctors have more than five often played playlists.
According to doctors who joined the survey, the music calmed them in the operating room, helping to improve mood and focus, and drop tension when there are moments of silence.
“The music calms the atmosphere and improves the behavior of the staff,” says one surgeon.
Others added, “Sometimes the music makes the room so much more relaxed and coördinated, and at other times it can also be uplifting.”
The choice of music in the operating room is not only dependent on the medical team, many surgeons are saying that they received a request. If the patient is aware, they can ask for a special song to play.

“We do a cesarean operation where the patient is fully aware, if they have their own musical tastes, we follow them or else we have fun and play songs from old TV shows, old songs, and so on.”
Rock is also well-known among professional medical officers who are in charge of anesthetizing patients during surgery. Doctors, dope residents, and drug nurses listened to rock music during their work (44 percent). While the rest (59 percent) listened to pop music.
Of course safety is primary. Participants in the survey said that they lowered the volume of music when there were critical things in the operation and when complications arose.
